12/22/2023 0 Comments Three kingdoms total war reddit![]() There have been a couple battles I have played in TW where my army would be outnumbered by more than 1000 troops forcing me to adopt a defensive position on a hill and just hold on. I know long, slow paced missions aren't for everyone but it always felt incredibly satisfying to succeed after racing around trying to keep all your generals alive and fulfill special event objectives. Yi Ling, Chi Bi, Wu Zhang Plains, DW 4 Nanman Campaign etc all feel like full scale slogs which can absolutely take up to 90 mins to complete on the higher difficulties. I compare this to DW3/4, my favourite DW games. This made the pace of missions a lot quicker and stages didn't really feel like 'battles' to me. Generic enemy soldiers/officers felt too easy to kill. ![]() I enjoyed DW8:XL but it felt very different to the classics in a couple of key areas for me. I know TW focuses more on battle realism and overall strategy, and DW on hack and slash action and fantasy, but I feel that the series has strayed a little too far into over the top anime style action and character design for my personal taste, and I like to think it is possible to strike a balance between these two approaches and return to a more grounded formula. Most of my ideas are basically applying DW gameplay to TW battles while trying to identify and preserve the core elements of what makes DW DW. To preface I have played a hell of a lot of DW3/XL,DW4, and a bit of DW8:XL, with my favourite being 3/XL. Playing these games got me thinking about what my ideal DW would be, or what the future of the series is. Over the holidays, while back at my parents house, I broke out the PS2 and dove back into Dynasty Warriors 3, DW3:XL and DW4. I have been playing a lot of Total War: Three Kingdoms recently and have been loving every moment of it.
